Dear Friends and Family,
As you may know, my wife and I enjoy skiing at Sunday River in Newry, Maine and we’re often amazed by the large number of instructors and participants in adaptive sports. It’s not unusual to see instructors working with blind skiers, sit skiers and other skiers with various disabilities. It turns out that Sunday River is a proud sponsor and home of Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation. Maine Adaptive provides free adaptive sports programs to individuals with disabilities offering them the opportunity to alpine and Nordic ski, snowboard, and snowshoe in the winter and golf, paddle, climb, cycle and play tennis in the summer.
Maine Adaptive’s specially trained volunteers instruct adults and children with disabilities, ages 4 and up, to become independent skiers and riders. The organization provides over 1,800 free adaptive lessons every winter at Sunday River from early January through March thanks to the help of roughly 400 volunteers!
Part of the key to Maine Adaptive’s success is that their support and instruction are free. They are free because of the financial generosity of their donors. Would you join me to help keep this worthy cause free to all participants with your donation? Thanks in advance for your support.
Bob
